George Lucas speaks about Yoda from Revenge of the Sith
"I had no way of avoiding a final
confrontation of Yoda vs. Darth
Sidious. The fans wouldn't accept
Yoda not going after Sidious in
order to destroy the Sith Order.
The problem is that Yoda has to
fight Sidious, but Yoda has no way
to prevail because we all know
Sidious established the Empire by
eradicating the Jedi and the Old
Republic. We don't see Yoda win
any light saber battles in the Star
Wars prequels.
The fight with Count Dooku from Attack
of the Clones ended with Dooku
retreating to escape being captured
by the clone troopers.
Again Yoda couldn't defeat Dooku because
I planned to have a young Anakin Skywalker
destroy the old Dooku similar to how the
young Luke Skywalker defeats the old Darth
Vader at the conclusion of Return of the
Jedi.
Some fans may not understand why Yoda
hides for two decades on Dagobah without
trying to bring down the Sith.
However, once Sidious turned the clone
troops to his side and after most of the
Jedi are killed during Order 66, then Yoda
is vastly outnumbered by the adversary.
Yoda didn't have the means to reach
Sidious because Sidious was surrounded by
thousands of clone trooper bodyguards.
Not even Yoda can defeat many multiple
opponents at one time. If Yoda really
were that powerful, then I guess Yoda
would have killed Sidious during
Revenge of the Sith." (Source: George
Lucas, the real time visionary creator
of Star Wars.)
