George Lucas speaks about Anakin Skywalker Darth Vader from Revenge of the Sith

"Anakin Skywalker is given the ultimate and final decision in Revenge of the Sith to either destroy the Sith Order as predicted by the Jedi prophecy of the one who will bring balance to the Force or save the beloved Palpatine from Mace Windu.

The choice is clear for Anakin, unfortunately. Anakin can fully trust Palpatine. In contrast, the Jedi have caused Anakin constant pain and misfortune. In The Phantom Menace, the Jedi at first reject Anakin for Jedi training.

Additionally, the Jedi Council refuses to bring Anakin's mother Shmi Skywalker to Coruscant. The final negative Anakin experiences from the Jedi is the Jedi Council's inability to recognize Anakin as a great Jedi Master.

In the end, the Jedi don't realize that a single individual can alter the course of galactic history all by themselves with the personal decisions they make at key points in life.

When Mace Windu wants to kill Palpatine in the form of Darth Sidious because the Jedi have no way to defeat a living Sith Master, Anakin is mortally horrified.

In the mind of Anakin, the Jedi are not only holding Anakin back, but Anakin believes the Jedi are impeding the best interests of the entire galaxy. All and all, Anakin can't justify to himself why the Jedi must continue as the eternal guardians of peace and justice for the Old Republic.

Once again, Palpatine outwits the Jedi, as he always did during the Star Wars prequels, because Palpatine makes Windu out to be the aggressive and terrible villain.

Anakin doesn't need much convincing to take out Windu for the benefit of the galaxy as a whole. If Windu and the other Jedi could have seen the future, they would have given Anakin the praise and care that Palpatine in fact wisely gave Anakin.
