George Lucas converses
about Jango Fett from Attack
of the Clones
"I created the Jango Fett
character in response to
the overwhelming popularity
of Boba Fett from the old
Star Wars films.
When we were producing the
old films, we didn't have
any direct contact with the
fans. I didn't realize at the
time that Boba Fett was
definitely the favorite
secondary character from
the old films.
If I had known how the
fans were going to react,
then I could have given
Boba Fett an extended role
in the old films.
The fact remains Boba Fett
wasn't really an important
character from the old
films and I didn't have
enough screen time to invest
in Boba Fett.
I regret giving Boba Fett a
not so great ending scene in
Return of the Jedi because
in the decades since Return
of the Jedi was in theaters
I've taken heavy criticism
for giving Boba Fett a lame
or bad death scene.
When we were working on the
special edition of Return
of the Jedi, I was tempted
to film a scene showing Boba
Fett escape from the Sarlacc,
but I ultimately decided
against it because the way
Boba Fett meets his fate is
what I envisioned originally.
When it came time to write
the script for Attack of the
Clones, I thought I could
reward the fans by revealing
the origins of Boba Fett.
The fans wanted to see more
of Boba Fett so they get to
meet Jango Fett and learn Boba
Fett is a clone related to
the Clone Wars.
It's also a tragic story
where Boba Fett sees his
father killed by the Jedi.
This helps explain why Boba
Fett eventually becomes a
bounty hunter because Boba
Fett wants to honor the
profession of Jango Fett.
You can also expect to
see Boba Fett in Star Wars
Episode 7." (Source:
