George Lucas speaks about
Count Dooku Darth Tyranus
from Attack of the Clones
"One of the secret unwritten
plot elements from the Star
Wars script formula is to
feature experienced actors
from the classic horror films
from the golden age of cinema.
Actor Peter Cushing as Grand
Moff Tarkin served this
important role in A New Hope.
Likewise, Christopher Lee as
Count Dooku and Darth Tyranus
has this crucial part for
Attack of the Clones.
Most Star Wars fans find it
impossible to unlock hidden
plot elements from the Star
Wars story formula because
they don't really understand
what I'm doing in the Star
Wars movies.
Each episode of the Star Wars
saga repeats the themes and
story points seen in prior
film episodes. Basically,
I'm making the exact same
movie over and over again,
but I change the nature of
the plot elements enough to
make each episode of Star
Wars seem original
Dooku was a necessary character
because I needed someone who
was wise and seasoned to be
the leader of the Separatist
movement.
Darth Maul was a fearsome Sith,
but Maul really didn't have
the political and military
acumen needed for the Clone
Wars. I had to get rid of Maul
in The Phantom Menace so that
I could have a much older Sith
to have a final showdown with
Anakin Skywalker in Revenge
of the Sith.
Once again, I'm repeating a
plot element involving a young
Jedi facing an ancient Sith
apprentice so that Darth Sidious
can replace the older Sith with
a younger and more powerful
Sith apprentice.
Obviously, Darth Vader is this
antiquated Sith in Return of
the Jedi and Luke Skywalker is
the Anakin from the Star Wars
prequels." (Source: George
Lucas, the unquestioned master
of all aspects of Star Wars.)
