George Lucas speaks on
Anakin Skywalker from Attack
of the Clones
"Attack of the Clones is
the episode where we see
Anakin openly embracing the
dark path. However, Anakin's
descent into darkness really
began in The Phantom Menace
with the death of Qui-Gon
Jinn.
Anakin blamed the Jedi
Council for what happened
because the Jedi didn't
send any support for Qui-Gon
and Obi-Wan Kenobi when
they faced the threat of
the Trade Federation and
Sith on Naboo.
That was the turning point.
Without the guidance of
Qui-Gon, Anakin is more
likely to fall to the dark
side.
What makes it an almost
certainty that Anakin will
eventually become a Sith is
the death of his mother Shmi
Skywalker. Again Anakin
blames the Jedi for the death
of his mother because the
Jedi Council refused to
bring Shmi to Coruscant.
The Jedi ended up giving
Anakin many reasons for
betraying the Jedi Order.
Most of the tragedies
experienced by Anakin are
traced back to the Jedi in
Anakin's opinion.
It is ironic that the Jedi
couldn't understand the
implications of the Jedi
prophecy of the one who
will balance to the Force.
The Jedi never thought the
chosen one could destroy both
the Jedi and Sith. In hindsight,
the Jedi should have been more
careful in the training of
Anakin in the ways of the Force
and the overall respect the
Jedi don't want to freely
give Anakin.
The mistakes of the Jedi end
up haunting the entire galaxy
for over twenty years."
